The BUZZ

Winter 2011

2011 has come and gone in the blink of an eye, or so it seems. We've introduced a few new products, a new educational website, a lot of new quick tip videos, and done our best to provide you with the continued top-quality products and service that you expect from us. Thank you for your business, your questions and your feedback. You make us stronger, sharper and more focused each and every year. Here's to 2012!

  • There are new products in the spotlight—including our H2 Detector, new BULLET™ models and more!
  • Know your cool with the YELLOW JACKET University "degree in cool" program.
  • We're going to help you with your 2012 planning. The latest HVAC&R catalog is here!
  • What do overpressurized gauges, pinpricking hoses, vacuum pump oil, and mini splits and flaring have in common?

If you're lucky enough to head to the AHR Expo in Chicago January 23-25, 2012, be sure to stop by booth #4223 for a look at some new products and grab some fun giveaways!

In the Spotlight

New! Improved! Yessiree, we've got both for you. Let's get to it.

  • The new H2 Detector works in conjunction with the H2 tracer gas mixture, a combination of 95% nitrogen and 5% hydrogen. When used together, the H2 detector uncovers leak rates less than 5 ppm.
  • The new Hydraulic Tube Expander Kit expands tubing with ease, eliminating fittings and saving you time and money. The expander heads for the new 60493 Hydraulic Expander are interchangeable with the YELLOW JACKET 60407 Tubing Expander/Exchanger, so if you want to upgrade your 60407 to a hydraulic tool, order the 60494 Hydraulic Expander and Reamer in a carrying case.
  • We've increased the number of BULLET™ models available. In addition to the original 7 cfm pump (93600), you can now purchase a 3 cfm (93603) and 5 cfm (93605).

Know Your Cool

We launched YELLOW JACKET UNIVERSITY this past summer, and while we've been adding new articles, videos and questions on a regular basis, we thought it was still missing something. Yes, "coursework" is a huge part of the university experience, but so are tests, and ultimately, a degree (beer, too, but it's not easy to crack open a virtual cold one).

As of October 2011, you can be a part of YJU's first graduating class and get your "degree in cool." The program consists of a 25-question exam that covers a variety of HVAC/R-related topics, and the answers are all located on the website. And, if you don't know an answer off the top of your head, the source(s) on the site where the answer is found are listed right by the question. It's an open site test! Get it? Moving on…

If you get at least 20 right, you'll be automatically entered into a drawing to win a YELLOW JACKET® Refrigeration System Analyzer, AccuProbe UV™ Leak Detector or Heat Pump Manifold.* And you can take the exam as many times as you want (through February 29, 2012) until you get that passing score. Seriously, it doesn't get any easier than this. So get your degree, already!

*There are a few terms and conditions, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Edition 62 HVAC&R Catalog is Now Available

Our newest HVAC&R catalog is hot off the press (literally), and your free copy is waiting for you to dog-ear your favorite pages, just in time for 2012 planning. If you prefer to drool over your keyboard rather than the written page, you can also download a catalog. Heck, feel free to request a copy AND download a version, all in one place!

Quick Tip Videos: You Can Learn A Lot In
a Minute (Or Two)

We've added four new quick tip videos to our collection, each addressing questions or issues we hear on a regular basis. Watch for even more next year!

  • What Causes a gauge to overpressurize (and how you can tell when it is)
  • How to flare for mini splits/R-410A
  • Why hoses are pinpricked (and how it's done)
  • The importance of using high-quality vacuum pump oil
