1. For what refrigerants is the RecoverX family of Refrigerant Recovery Machines rated?
They are tested by UL to ARI 740-98 (740-95 for 95700) and approved for medium pressure refrigerants R-12, R-134a, R-401C, R-406A, R-500: medium high pressure refrigerants R-401A, R-409A, R-401B, R-412A, R-411A, R-407D, R-22, R-411B, R-502, R-407C, R-402B, R-408A, R-509; and high pressure refrigerants R-407A, R-404A, R-402A, R-507, R-407B, R-410A (RecoverXL and RecoverXLT).
2. Is ARI the only testing agency?
No. ARI is only a certifying agency that hires another agency to perform the actual testing. UL is also EPA approved as a testing and certifying agency. YELLOW JACKET Machines are UL tested for performance. Some YELLOW JACKET Machines are tested to CSA, CUL, CE, and TÜV safety standards that go beyond the ARI performance standards.
3. Can I compare machines by comparing their ARI or UL ratings?
Yes. ARI and UL test standards should be the same. And remember that manufacturers can change the conditions under which they test their own machines to give the appearance of enhanced performance. Only ARI and UL test results provide consistent benchmarks and controls on which to make objective comparisons.
4. How dependable are YELLOW JACKET Refrigerant Recovery Machines?
YELLOW JACKET equipment has been tested at thousands of cycles, and is backed with the experience of units in the field since 1992.
5. Is pumping liquid the fastest way to move refrigerant?
Yes, and the RecoverX, RecoverXL, RecoverXLT, RecoverXLS, and R 100 monitor liquid flow at a rate safe for the compressor. In YELLOW JACKET lab testing, over 80,000 pounds of liquid R-22 were continuously and successfully pumped. That's the equivalent of refrigerant in over 25,000 typical central AC systems.
6. What is the push/pull recovery method?
Many technicians use this recovery method, particularly on large jobs. By switching the RecoverX, RecoverXL, RecoverXLT, RecoverXLS, or R 100 discharge valve to "purge" during push/pull recovery, the condenser is by-passed, increasing the "push" pressure and speeding the recovery.
7. Why do the RecoverX through R 100 feature a built-in filter?
Every recovery machine requires an in-line filter to protect the machine against the particles and "gunk" that can be found in failed refrigeration systems.
For your convenience, the RecoverX, RecoverXL, RecoverXLT, RecoverXLS, and R 100 Series incorporate a built-in 100-mesh filter that you can clean, and if necessary, replace. The filter traps 150 micron particles and protects against the dirtiest systems to maximize service life.
In case of a burnout, an acid core filter/drier is mandatory. The YELLOW JACKET filter is built-in to prevent breaking off like some competitive units with external filters.
8. What is auto purge and how does it work?
At the end of each cycle, several ounces of refrigerant can be left in the recovery machine to possibly contaminate the next job, or be illegally vented. Many competitive recovery machines require switching hoses, tuning the unit off and on, or other time-consuming procedures.
The RecoverX, RecoverXL, RecoverXLT, RecoverXLS, and R 100 can be quickly purged "on the fly" with a simple turn of the single control valve. In a few seconds, all residual refrigerant is purged into the recovery tank and you're finished. Purging is completed without switching off the recovery unit.
9. Can increased airflow benefit recovery cylinder pressure?
Yes. For reliable performance in high ambient temperatures, YELLOW JACKET units are engineered with a larger condenser and more aggressive fan blade with a greater pitch. This allows the unit to run cooler and keeps the refrigerant cooler in the recovery cylinder.
10. Can I service a YELLOW JACKET System in the field?
Although YELLOW JACKET Machines feature a full one-year warranty, there are times when a unit will need a tune-up. The service manual with every unit includes a wide variety of information such as tips to speed recovery, troubleshooting guides, and parts listings. On the side of every unit, you'll find hook-up instructions, a quick start guide, and simple tips for troubleshooting. And if ever in doubt, just call 1-800-769-8370 and ask for customer service. All service and repair parts are readily available through your nearest YELLOW JACKET wholesaler.
11. Are there any recovery machines certified for R-410A?
The YELLOW JACKET RecoverXL (95753 and 95756), RecoverXLT, and RecoverXLS series have also been UL tested and certified for high-pressure gases such as R-410A that are covered under ARI 740-98.
12. What features should I demand in a system to be used for R-410A?
Look for the following three features as a minimum:
A) High volume air flow through a large condenser to keep the unit running cooler and help eliminate cut-outs in high ambient temperatures. B) Single automatic internal high-pressure switch for simple operation. C) CPR valve rated to 600 psi for safety and it eliminates the need to monitor and regulate the unit during recovery.
13. What is a CPR valve?
The CPR (Constant Pressure Regulator) valve is the feature that makes the YELLOW JACKET RecoverXLT and RecoverXLS the first truly automatic recovery machines for every refrigerant. The 600 psi rated high-pressure switch covers all refrigerants and eliminates the need for a control panel with two selector switches, one for R-410A and a second for medium pressure.
The CPR valve automatically reduces the pressure of the refrigerant being recovered. Regardless of which refrigerant, input is automatically regulated through a small orifice that allows refrigerant to flash into vapor for compression without slugging the compressor. Throttling is not required.
Under normal conditions, you could turn the single control valve to the "liquid" or "vapor" setting. The machine will complete the job while you work elsewhere.
14. With the YELLOW JACKET RecoverXLT design, do I have to manually reset a pressure switch between medium and high-pressure gasses?
No. Some competitive machines require you to choose between medium and high-pressure gas settings before recovery. You'll see the switch on their control panels.
With the YELLOW JACKET RecoverXLT, the single internal automatic high-pressure switch makes the choice for you. That's why only RecoverXLT is truly automatic.
