Tubing cutters are designed for softer thinner-wall materials such as copper, aluminum and brass. The wheel is designed very specifically with a sharp edge for quick cutting. If used on black iron pipe, however, the wheel will quickly be destroyed. Neither the cutter nor the wheel is designed for the hardness or wall thickness of black iron pipe.

To ensure lasting tool performance, use the correct cutters for copper and the correct pipe cutter for black iron pipe.
